Registered Manager – Residential Children’s Home

Location: Grimsby
Salary: £39,000 – £55,000 per annum
Home: 3 Bed EBD

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the home, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care.
  • Create a safe, nurturing environment where children feel valued, respected and supported.
  • Ensure compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, Statement of Purpose and Ofsted requirements.
  • Maintain strong safeguarding arrangements and ensure concerns, incidents and allegations are managed appropriately.
  • Oversee care plans, risk assessments, behaviour-support plans and placement plans.
  • Ensure children’s wishes, feelings and individual needs are central to decision-making.
  • Monitor outcomes across education, health, emotional wellbeing, relationships and independence.
  • Lead referrals, matching and admissions, ensuring placements can be safely supported.
  • Recruit, supervise, develop and retain a skilled staff team.
  • Maintain safe staffing levels, effective rotas, training and professional development.
  • Manage staff performance and promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Prepare for Ofsted inspections and oversee Regulation 44 visits and Regulation 45 reviews.
  • Lead quality assurance, audits and improvement plans, ensuring actions are completed and evidenced.
  • Monitor incidents, complaints, safeguarding concerns and other trends to identify areas for improvement.
  • Build effective relationships with social workers, education providers, health professionals, families and other agencies.
  • Promote trauma-informed and relationship-based practice and ensure restrictive interventions are necessary, proportionate and reviewed.
  • Maintain appropriate health and safety, premises, medication and emergency arrangements.
  • Manage the delegated budget and ensure resources are used effectively.
  • Participate in on-call arrangements and escalate significant concerns to the Responsible Individual.

Requirements & Experience

  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or equivalent, or willingness to complete the qualification.
  • Substantial experience working with children in residential childcare.
  • Experience supervising and managing staff providing direct care.
  • Experience managing safeguarding concerns, incidents, risk and care planning.
  • Experience of staff supervision, quality assurance, audits and improvement planning.
  • Strong knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements.
  • Knowledge of Regulation 40, Regulation 44 and Regulation 45 requirements.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed, relationship-based and positive behaviour support.
  • Strong communication, report-writing, organisational and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to analyse information, identify risks and challenge poor practice.
  • Calm, resilient and confident leadership style.
  • Genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and on-call duties.
  • Willingness to complete enhanced DBS and safer recruitment checks.
