Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Edinburgh
Salary: £51,325 per annum
Bonus: £5,000 achievable annual bonus + £5,000 welcome bonus following successful probation

Key Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the effective management and operation of the children's residential home.
  • Develop and maintain comprehensive care plans that address each young person's care, education, social, emotional, cultural, therapeutic and health needs.
  • Ensure young people's wishes, feelings and individual needs are reflected in the care they receive.
  • Recruit, develop and retain a strong and consistent staff team.
  • Provide effective leadership, supervision and support to staff, promoting a positive and motivated team culture.
  • Establish and monitor high standards of care in line with the home's Statement of Purpose and relevant regulatory standards.
  • Develop effective systems for consulting with young people about the care and support they receive.
  • Ensure each young person has an appropriately allocated Key Worker who supports the implementation of their care plan.
  • Manage complaints, concerns and child protection matters appropriately and ensure safeguarding remains a priority.
  • Work collaboratively with parents, carers, social workers and other professionals to promote positive outcomes for young people.
  • Attend and contribute to care planning, review meetings and other relevant professional meetings.
  • Ensure the home operates in accordance with relevant legislation, regulatory requirements and safeguarding procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of recording, reporting and quality assurance.
  • Promote a safe, nurturing and child-centred environment where young people can achieve positive outcomes.

Requirements & Experience

  • SVQ 4 / SCQF Level 9 in Children and Young People and HNC or equivalent qualification meeting SSSC requirements.
  • Working towards any remaining SSSC registration conditions, such as Management (PDA) or a relevant professional care qualification, with no more than six months remaining.
  • Minimum of two years' experience at Assistant Manager level, or a minimum of four years' relevant experience including supervisory or professional responsibility.
  • Previous experience undertaking a supervisory role within a residential environment.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills.
  • Excellent written, reporting and recording skills.
  • Good knowledge of the needs of children and young people and a range of intervention strategies.
  • Working knowledge of legislation and standards relating to children's residential care, including the Children (Scotland) Act 1995, National Care Standards and GIRFEC.
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to implement effective systems and processes within a residential children's home.
  • Commitment to promoting positive outcomes and upholding the principles of The Promise.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to complete an enhanced DBS/PVG-style safeguarding check and provide the required employment references and history.
