Trainee Occupational Health Technician – London & Southeast
Salary: £25,000 – £30,000+ depending on experience and qualifications
Hours: Full-time | Monday to Friday | 8:00am – 4:00pm
Location: London & Southeast | Regular travel required
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Occupational Health Technician to join a growing team, supporting the delivery of occupational health, health surveillance and wellbeing services across client sites throughout London and the Southeast.
This is a varied, hands-on role offering excellent opportunities for someone looking to build a career in occupational health. Previous occupational health experience is desirable but not essential, as full training, shadowing and mentoring will be provided. A degree in Sports Science, Exercise Science or a related subject would be particularly useful, as this provides a strong foundation in anatomy, physiology and health assessment.
The Role
You will travel to client sites across London and the Southeast, supporting the delivery of a range of occupational health screening and wellbeing services. You will work closely with the clinical team and, following training and competency sign-off, will be expected to work independently at client sites.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting occupational health and health surveillance assessments following appropriate training.
- Supporting pre-placement and safety-critical medical screening.
- Carrying out health screening including audiometry, spirometry, vision and skin surveillance.
- Supporting drug and alcohol testing, including following appropriate procedures for non-negative results and chain-of-custody requirements.
- Completing night worker assessments and other health screening activities.
- Delivering Health MOTs and providing basic lifestyle and wellbeing advice.
- Supporting health promotion campaigns and delivering onsite toolbox talks and presentations.
- Helping to prepare health promotion materials, including posters, flyers and handouts.
- Accurately recording clinical information, outcomes and activity using relevant systems.
- Managing equipment, clinical supplies and consumables when working independently onsite.
- Liaising professionally with clients and escalating clinical or operational queries to the clinical team when required.
- Contributing to service improvements and maintaining high standards of quality, confidentiality and compliance.
Training & Development
Full training and support will be provided. Initial training will generally be based in Maple Cross, followed by structured shadowing and mentoring across client sites throughout London and the Southeast.
You will have the opportunity to develop your skills across occupational health screening, health surveillance, wellbeing and health promotion. As your competency develops, you will progress towards working more independently at client sites. The role includes ongoing learning and competency assessment to support your professional development.
About You
We are interested in candidates who are reliable, personable and keen to develop a career in occupational health.
You may already have occupational health or health surveillance experience, but we are also happy to consider candidates from related backgrounds.
A Sports Science, Exercise Science, Health Science or related degree would be highly advantageous. Candidates with relevant practical experience in areas such as personal training, fitness, exercise or health screening are also encouraged to apply.
You will need:
- A full UK driving licence.
- Your own car and the ability to travel to client sites each day.
- A willingness to travel regularly throughout London and the Southeast.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good organisation, time management and attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently once fully trained.
- A professional and approachable manner when dealing with clients and employees.
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office.
- The right to work in the UK.
