Registered Manager – Children's Residential Home

Location: Birmingham, B23
Salary: Up to £55,000 per annum with additional bonus structure in place 
Home: 3-bed EBD children's residential home
Ofsted Rating: Good

What We're Looking For

  • Proven experience as a Registered Manager within a children's residential home
  • Experience managing larger children's residential services
  • Strong knowledge of Ofsted regulations, inspections and Quality Standards
  • Proven leadership and people management skills
  • Experience supporting children and young people with EBD, complex needs, trauma or emotional and behavioural difficulties
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare, or willingness to complete
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and develop a high-performing staff team
  • Experience managing recruitment, supervision, performance and staff development
  • Strong organisational, communication and decision-making skills
  • Experience working alongside external professionals and multi-agency teams
  • Track record of achieving and maintaining positive Ofsted outcomes
  • Full UK driving licence
  • A child-centred, therapeutic and progressive approach to leadership

Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Take overall responsibility for the safe and effective day-to-day management of the 6-bed EBD children's home
  • Maintain and build upon the home's existing Good Ofsted rating
  • Ensure full compliance with the Children's Homes Regulations, Quality Standards and Ofsted requirements
  • Lead, inspire and develop a stable, motivated and high-performing staff team
  • Create and maintain a safe, nurturing and therapeutic environment for children and young people
  • Oversee safeguarding, care planning, risk management and placement stability
  • Ensure children's individual needs, wishes and feelings remain central to all aspects of care
  • Manage recruitment, induction, supervision, performance management and ongoing staff development
  • Work collaboratively with Local Authorities, social workers, families, clinical professionals and other external agencies
  • Monitor quality assurance, audits, recording and regulatory compliance
  • Identify areas for improvement and implement effective action plans
  • Maintain effective budgetary control and operational oversight
  • Drive occupancy and ensure the home operates effectively and sustainably
  • Monitor outcomes for children and young people and drive continuous improvement
  • Prepare for and lead Ofsted inspections and ensure recommendations or actions are addressed promptly
  • Work closely with the experienced senior management team to maintain high standards across the service
  • Lead by example, promoting a positive culture of safeguarding, accountability and child-centred practice
